Take the boat from Salthomen, just south of Gothenburg city

Gothenburg is the perfect starting point for reaching the picturesque islands off the Swedish west coast. It takes about 30 minutes by tram/bus from the city to Saltholmen, from where it’s a 15-minute ferry ride to Styrsö. From an exciting city to one of the West Coast’s most genuine archipelago settings!

Get on the ferry that departs for Styrsö Skäret. Prepare to disembark when the ferry passes the bridge between Styrsö and Donsö. Tell the staff on board that you intend to disembark at Styrsö Skäret jetty. It takes just 5 minutes to walk from the ferry to the guest house. You can see the guest house as soon as you get off the ferry. When you are leaving Styrsö Skäret to return to Saltholmen, make sure that the semaphore sign is down. This signals to the ferry that you want to embark.

Getting to the guest house is easy as there is a frequent ferry service from Saltholmen on the mainland. You don’t need to book the journey in advance. If you have a travel card from Västtrafik, you simply swipe your card when you board the ferry. Alternatively, you can purchase a ticket on board. To get to the ferry terminal at Saltholmen, you can catch a number 11 tram, a number 114 bus or take a taxi. If you drive to the ferry, you leave your car in the car park at Saltholmen or Långedrag.

From Oslo:
Keep in the right-hand lane through the tunnel (Tingstadstunneln). Follow the signs to Malmö through the next tunnel (Götatunneln) towards Stena Line’s terminal. Continue past Stena Line’s terminal on the right and past the turn-off for the bridge (Älvsborgsbron). Follow the signs to Långedrag (right turn) and continue all the way to Saltholmen.

From Karlstad/Stockholm:
Follow the signs to Malmö through the next tunnel (Götatunneln) towards Stena Line’s terminal. Continue past Stena Line’s terminal on the right and past the turn-off for the bridge (Älvsborgsbron). Follow the signs to Långedrag (right turn) and continue all the way to Saltholmen.

From Landvetter Airport/Malmö:
Turn off at the junction “Åbromotet” where you see the sign “Göteborg Väster Hamnar”. Continue towards Frölunda and turn off when you see the sign for Långedrag. Turn left when you get to the road called “Torgny Segerstedsgatan”. Continue driving towards Långedrag/Saltholmen

Cars are not allowed on the island of Styrsö so you’ll have to park your car on the mainland!

Take the shuttle bus from Gothenburg City Airport or Landvetter Airport to Nils Ericssonsplatsen. Walk through the railway station hall to Drottningtorget and catch a number 11 tram to Saltholmen. Alternatively, catch a number 114 bus from Brunnsparken. The bus and tram terminate at Saltholmen where you board the ferry for Styrsö Skäret.
